Cortec MCI®-2021/MCI®-2021 V/O

Product Description

MCI®-2021 is a concrete sealer that combines a blend of reactive silicates and Cortec’s timeproven Migrating Corrosion Inhibitors (MCI®). By operating similar to a densifier, MCI®-2021 preserves and protects concrete by working with the chemistry of concrete. MCI®-2021 reduces permeability and strengthens concrete surfaces while retaining breathability. Concurrent to this strengthening, MCI's migrate through the concrete to form a protective layer on embedded steel reinforcement.

MCI®-2021 V/O is a high viscosity version of MCI®-2021 that is specifically designed for vertical and overhead applications.

Packaging and Storage

MCI®-2021 is available in 5 gallon (19 L) pails, 55 gallon (208 L) drums, liquid totes, and bulk.

To ensure best product performance, store in original packaging, indoors, and out of direct sunlight at 40-100 °F (4-38 °C). Do not freeze.

How it works

The silicates react with calcium hydroxide. The reaction products build additional insoluble silicate structures within the concrete, sealing surface pores and creating a water repellent surface which minimizes carbonation and intrusion of chlorides. The penetrating MCIs will migrate to embedded reinforcement, delaying the onset of corrosion as well as reducing existing corrosion rates.

• All reinforced, precast, prestressed, post-tensioned concrete structures exposed to corrosive environments (carbonation, deicing salts, or atmospheric attack)  
• Bridges, piers, highways, parking decks, ramps, garages, buildings, and streets  
• High traffic areas prone to dusting, abrasion, wear, and staining
