Cortec M-141

Product Description

M-141 is an additive that can be used in aqueous acrylic emulsions and 1k polyurethane dispersions to improve corrosion resistance and durability. Using M-141 will increase water resistance, coating hardness, substrate adhesion, and chemical resistance.

M-141 functions as a cross-linker to increase the cohesive strength of a coating by building a network between the polymer chains increasing abrasion resistance and film hardness. The additive reacts with the protective film to provide better adhesion and permeability properties; which in turn helps increase the corrosion resistance of a coating.

Product Application

M-141can be added at levels of 1% to 3% to finished formulated paints, inks, or adhesives. After light mixing, an aqueous system with pH of ~9.0 will typically have a pot life of 18-36 hours before it loses its efficacy with no adverse effects on the coating or its dried film (this time will be reduced if the pH is lower); additional M-141 can be added if needed to recharge the system.

Note: M-141 can lower viscosity of the finished product. Any diluting or adjusting of viscosity is recommended after the additive has been mixed properly into the coating.

Accurate weight percents should be used and a test sample is highly recommended to confirm desired results.

After blending M-141 into coatings, filter and allow for a 15 minute induction period before use.
